The v1.05 firmware by default supports Unicode which is an industry standard allowing computers to consistently represent and manipulate text expressed in most of the world's writing systems. However, if you upgrade your DNS-323 firmware from an older firmware (v1.03 or earlier), the Unicode will not be supported until you re-format your Hard Drives on the DNS-323.
In the case you want to store non-English character files, but you do not want to re-format your Hard Drives on the DNS-323, then you will need to change the Language setting from the Easy Search Utility to ensure full compatibility with those files.
